Efficacy of Intravenous Magnesium Sulfate in the Treatment of Acute Migraine Attacks

This 2001 randomized controlled trial evaluated the effectiveness of intravenous magnesium sulfate in treating acute migraine attacks. Thirty patients were enrolled; those who received 1 g of magnesium over 15 minutes experienced significant improvements—86.6% became pain-free, and 100% reported relief from accompanying symptoms, compared to minimal improvement in the placebo
