Cannabinoid Type 1 Receptors Are Upregulated During Acute Activation of Brown Adipose Tissue

This 2018 study investigated the role of cannabinoid type 1 receptors (CB1Rs) in brown adipose tissue (BAT) activation in humans and rodents. Using positron emission tomography (PET) imaging with the radioligand [^18F]FMPEP-d_2, researchers observed that cold exposure significantly increased CB1R density and glucose uptake in the BAT of lean men.
