This placebo-controlled pilot study investigated the effects of alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) on insulin sensitivity in patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus. Seventy-four participants were randomized to receive either a placebo or ALA at doses of 600 mg once daily, 1200 mg twice daily, or 1800 mg thrice daily for 4 weeks.
