Muscle cramps and magnesium deficiency: case reports

This 1996 animal study published in Archives of Toxicology examined the cardioprotective effects of magnesium sulfate in rats exposed to acute carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Rats treated with magnesium (270 mg/kg intraperitoneally) prior to CO exposure showed significantly less myocardial injury—such as reduced necrosis and interstitial hemorrhage—compared to untreated rats.
